Back in May, readers of this Website would have read about Emma Bassett's support for her local children's charity Claire House and her fund raising 5K run which took place last Sunday. But that was not all she did. In fact as she explained, she changed the run to a 10K event several weeks ago. Following her successful run, Emma told Unionsafety: "What an atmosphere. This is my first event ever and I was originally going to run the 5k but I changed it to the 10k 5 weeks ago. I couldn't be prouder to be able to do this for the charity. They deserve so much more but I'm sure my sponsor money will go a long way. With the situation we have in the health service which has been turned by the Tory Government, into an American based service, with no longer a national healthcare service, replaced by 42 autonomous Integrated Care Systems making decision about healthcare provision at local level and determining which healthcare services they will provide in their specific area; charities such as Claire House hospice for children are in greater need. CWU and other Trade Union members across the country provide a level of support without which many charities would be under threat, especially in a country whose Government's provide ever reducing finances for public and social healthcare.
